As the first prize winner of the Klaipėda–David Geringas International Cello Competition, Liav Kerbel, MMS faculty member, was invited as a featured artist in the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pablo Casals, the legendary cellist and humanist.

The celebrations began on May 14 2026 in Barcelona with a full ceremonial event that included performances by Liav Kerbel together with pianist Yoko Suzuki, as well as a conference dedicated to Casals’ life and artistic legacy.

The celebrations continued on May 15, 2026, when cellist Liav Kerbel and pianist Yoko Suzuki had the privilege of presenting a full recital at the Pau Casals Museum, the former home of the great artist in his hometown of El Vendrell.
