As part of their Global Perspectives team project, four year 10 students travelled to the OKAN class (a specialised reception class for newcomer students - many of whom were refugees - aged 12-18 ) on Tuesday, May 12th 2026 at Meertalig Atheneum Woluwe, Brussels.
At the class our students gave a music workshop to introduce Classical Music through activities, such as a theatrical interpretation that they developed based on their string quartet performance of Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik".
The students present were from all over the world - Afghanistan, Yemen, Rwanda, Turkey, Eritrea , Ukraine and many more.
Most had never heard classical music before, having mainly listened to popular and traditional music from their own countries, but they all said that they enjoyed the music and would listen to classical music again. It was a very positive and educational moment for all of the students from both schools, showing that music is truly a universal language!
Bravo to all involved !
