On Friday 12 June, four year 10 Global Perspectives students volunteered their time at "Le Phare" at the Salvation Army Hall in place du Nouveau Marché aux Grains, 1000 Brussels.
The students supported the regular volunteers from Serve the City, the Christian Community of Stockel and the Salvation Army Brussels Central, to prepare takeaway lunch bags with sandwiches, drinks, a hot meal of couscous and vegetables, and a pot of soup.
They helped to prepare the cold food and portion the hot food for more than 90 people. They helped to serve the lunches and hand out donated shampoo to people in need, including refugees, homeless and other disadvantaged communities in central Brussels. It was a great opportunity for our students to give back to the local community. In turn, the Le Phare volunteers thanked our students, saying they "worked with enthusiasm and were happy to help in every aspect of the project".
Our students are now planning to return to Le Phare in autumn with a lunchtime chamber concert during the Tuesday sit-down meals provided by Le Phare.
Well done to all involved!
