Within the framework of their history studies and to gain greater insight into the impact of WW2 and the occupation of Europe by the Nazi regime, the MMS A-Level History class visited Fort Breendonk, situated between Brussels and Antwerp. Fort Breendonk was used as an SS prison camp and a transit camp for political prisoners, Jews and other groups persecuted by the Nazis during the occupation of Belgium and the tour gave the class a more tangible understanding of some of the issues covered in their Holocaust Studies.

Reflecting on their visit, the students realised more clearly the importance of understanding how the freedoms that we enjoy today were hard won by enduring horrible atrocity and making unimaginable sacrifices in the past.
